In looking at the role of officer versus that of supervisor/manager, categorize the focus and goals of training at each level. Identify the importance and impact of the two (2) areas of training on the community and agency. What impact does liability have on the actions of the supervisor or manager? Provide your opinion on the importance of leadership training and the level of supervision at which you deem it most important to ensure the success of the squad, unit, or division.

The importance about these training areas is that it teaches supervisors what their role is and the liabilities that may come with the position. The community may be impacted because it would appear that the community’s officers are not kept up to date on their training, which may cause them to lack in their duties. Liability can have a great impact on the supervisors and their actions. Supervisors can be held liable if they were found to be lacking in their duty. For example, they may be held responsible because they failed to train their subordinates. If this were to be the case, the officer and supervisor would receive backlash from a higher ranking officer. I believe that leadership training is extremely important. Officers who enter into a supervisor position need to be trained because it is a new responsibility and has more duties that need to be fulfilled. They also need to learn the policies and procedures of the organization. That way they can also hold their officers accountable while on they are on the job.
