Question description

1. A viral infection has damaged a patient’s spinothalamic, corticospinal, and posterior column-medial lemniscus tract. What are these pathways or tracts and their functions in the CNS, and what are some signs exhibited by the patient that will help you, as her doctor, to accurately diagnose the problem and the cause of the infection?

2. (A). A viral infection has damaged a patient’s tectospinal tract. What signs of this damage probably helped the physicians diagnose the problem?

2 (B). What are the different classifications of Sensory receptors? Provide and describes two example of each. Since sensory receptors and neurons are involve in reflexes, define and provide the various types

CNS And Viral Infections

Spinothalamic, Corticospinal, And Posterior Column-Medial Lemniscus Tract.
The spinothalamic tract is a connective sensory pathway that connects the hypothalamus
in the brain to the skin in order to allow the latter to transmit sensory information to the central
nervous system. It is also referred to as the ventrolateral system and runs vertically through the
spinal cord. It is composed of various pathways that allow it to perform its functions. The
anterior tract of the spinothalamic tract is responsible for the perception of crude touch and
pressure while the lateral spinothalamic tract handles the perception of temperature and painful
aspects of touch to the skin (Nassau Community College, 2013). The spinotectal tract and the
spinoreticular tract are in charge of communications with regards to the level of pain and the
orientation of the head and eyes towards the direction of the stimulus. On the other hand, the
corticospinal tract forms the sensory link between the cerebral cortex and the lower motor
neurons. It is responsible for the fine movements in the limbs of the body. It may also be referred
to as the pyramidal tract. Finally, the posterior column-medial lemniscus tract is a pathway that
links the sensory information from the skin to the central nervous system. It relays information

Only issue was the guy's response time which was a bit long, which made me a bit anxious. Reached out to the help desk and they helped me out, turns out the tutors aren't all from US which meant there was a time difference. No issues on the quality.
