Description

Imago Dei means "image of God"): a theological term, applied uniquely to humans, which denotes the symbolical relation between God and humanity. The term imago Dei refers most fundamentally to two things: first, God's own self-actualization through humankind; and second, God's care for humankind. To say that humans are in the image of God is to recognize the special qualities of human nature which allow God to be made manifest in humans. In other words, for humans to have the conscious recognition of their being in the image of God means that they are the creature through whom God's plans and purposes can be made known and actualized; humans, in this way, can be seen as co-creators with God.

As healthcare professionals, called by God to care for others created in His image, to bring shalom into the lives of those for whom we care, in response to the grace that the Lord has extended to us, we need to begin with our own lives. Having a philosophy of caring based in Biblical truths will provide a foundation for Christian healthcare. God created us in his own image, Imago Dei. The implication of this is that all people need to be treated with dignity and respect. This is true regardless of their socioeconomic status, skin color, and where they are from. We were representing Jesus to those for whom we cared.
