Case Background
Rita Crundwell served as treasurer and controller for City of Dixon in Illinois. She was
given a 19-year sentence in a Federal prison in February 2013. During her tenure, she faced a
number of challenges touching on her job description and responsibility. According to the
Department of Justice (2013), she was involved in fraud and theft of about $53 million from the
public coffers to finance her quarter horse farming business as well as live a life of luxury. This
was an ethical case that threatened to taint his achievement at the entity where she had struggled
