“The Life Animated” by Ron Susskind
1. What moved you the most about the story?
Imagine being trapped inside Disney movies to the extent of learning language, emotions,
and life through animated characters! That sounds astonishing right? This is what Owen went
through after being diagnosed with autism, at the age of three. His ability to the community with
his parents through the characters memorized from Owen’s favorite Disney films is what moved
me about the story. It is interesting to see how Owen learns how to communicate with the outside
world through his love of Disney films despite struggling with autism. His parents were almost
giving up on their hopes that one day he would find a way to interact meaningfully with his
world (Suskind, 2014).
It can be a nightmare to every parent to wake up with a perfect child who starts to regress
every day. That funny and growing child vocabulary you enjoy hearing everyday reverts and
starts hearing only a single unclear word. That can be heartbreaking to any parent because it is
always the wish of every parent to watch their children grow. According to Owen’s father their
son had started to disappear because of the “pervasive developmental disorders” which made it
hard to pronounce words as other kids of his age. It feels good to imagine how he could mumble

lines of dialogues in the Disney animated movies. It was like a miracle to for Ron and Cornelia
to see their son relating and connecting with the outside world (Suskind, 2014).
