Stress is increasingly becoming a problem in the workplace. In the work setting, stress is
often caused by adverse working conditions and stress-inducing management practices such as
poor communication, unrealistic demands, and an imbalance between effort and reward.
Fortunately, it is possible for organizations to resolve the problem by correcting the causes of
stress in a work setting and improving the working conditions. This essay identifies stress as a
problem in a work setting and proposes possible solutions to solve the problem.
In 2016, researchers in a study published by The BJPsych Bulletin interviewed fifty-one
employees from a wide range of organizations. The participants identified stress as one of the
problems affecting them in the workplace. The stress, they revealed, resulted from a wide range
of management practices as well as adverse working conditions (Bhui, Dinos, GalantMiecznikowska, Jongh & Stansfeld, 2016). So serious is the problem that approximately 9.9
million work days were lost in the United Kingdom as a result of work-related stress in
2014/2015, with seven hundred and forty in every one hundred thousand workers complaining of
stress in the work setting, depression, and anxiety...
