Concept of Ethnicity in different World Literature
Ethnicity is a phenomenon that gives rise to different ethnic groups. Arguably, it is a
symbolic subject, which uses any aspect of culture to give differences from one group to another.
It can also be a psychological or social process, in which individuals come to affiliate and
identify themselves with a certain group and other cultural aspects. From ethnicity, the word
ethnic group means the types of human social collective identity groups, which arises from
sharing the quality of thought, feeling or behavior. In relation to ethnicity, the study of literature
is heavily in different conditions in these modern days by various categories that define them
nationally. Therefore, it is essential to understand the concept of ethnicity in the different world
literature.
American literature is the literary work that its production is in an area within the United
States geographical boundaries of America. American ethnic literature is hard to define, as it
lacks a definition since America has a large composition of people hailing from various parts of
the world. With these different groups of people, they have different opinions and cultures about
literature (Wilkens & Elizabeth, 2018). The early history of America was a composition of
British colonies on the eastern coast, which is currently, United States. We can therefore say,
there is a close link between British literature and American literary traditions. American ethnic
writers have their own challenges as well. American literature is dynamic and broad. Depending
on times of creation of social issues, it has a wide coverage of these social issues. It talks of
issues such as the citizens of America and other tragedies during the time of history. The

were from the 1812 war. Many American literary works relate to its history (Hargreaves, 2018).
The author explains personal experiences that reflect current social issues when setting their
literary works. It is also unique as it holds a unique and distinctive philosophy, which has a basis
of freedom and life. American literary is unique as it further aspires the Americans and third
world countries as well. As an American, there is a sense of pride since the historical literal has
the ability to spring back and therefore, makes life worth living for all the Americans.
There is the use of literary canon in American literature, which is a collection of works
related and similar words, written in almost same time. In the United States, literary canon
relates to prevailing phenomena on social aspect that exists in different times. This literary helps
the society to easily access work done at the same time. It also helps to categorize the literal
work of a society in a sequence order like in the case when America was experiencing the Great
Depression. Literary canons also are important as it helps with a great deal of ease.
Challenges that American Literal writers experience is like, most of their books suffer
rejection and criticism from those people who do not like ideas given in their ethnic literature,
especially if the ideas in their books talk about change. One example is a literature masterpiece
called: “Grapes of Wrath”, which criticisms were from the government of California. Ethnic
writers in American literature have also talked of equality, liberty, and opportunity in different
methodologies (Hargreaves, 2018). However, the style that the American ethnic writers have
used local setting, which only is understandable by a group of people only.
The New Ethnic Novel and the American Idea provides an insight in the progressive
reforms in ethnicity in America. Writers interested in the American ethnic regeneration
