Description

Please respond to the following post add citations and references

Write a paper (2,000-2,500 words) in which you apply the concepts of epidemiology and nursing research to a communicable disease. Refer to "Communicable Disease Chain," "Chain of Infection," and the CDC website for assistance completing this assignment.

Communicable Disease Selection

Choose one communicable disease from the following list:

  1. Chickenpox
  2. Tuberculosis
  3. Influenza
  4. Mononucleosis
  5. Hepatitis B
  6. HIV
  7. Ebola
  8. Measles
  9. Polio
  10. Influenza

Epidemiology Paper Requirements

Address the following:

  1. Describe the communicable disease (causes, symptoms, mode of transmission, complications, treatment) and the demographic of interest (mortality, morbidity, incidence, and prevalence). Is this a reportable disease? If so, provide details about reporting time, whom to report to, etc.
  2. Describe the determinants of health and explain how those factors contribute to the development of this disease.
  3. Discuss the epidemiologic triangle as it relates to the communicable disease you have selected. Include the host factors, agent factors (presence or absence), and environmental factors. (The textbook describes each element of the epidemiologic triangle). Are there any special considerations or notifications for the community, schools, or general population?
  4. Explain the role of the community health nurse (case finding, reporting, data collecting, data analysis, and follow-up).
  5. Identify at least one national agency or organization that addresses the communicable disease chosen and describe how the organization(s) contributes to resolving or reducing the impact of disease.
  6. Discuss a global implication of the disease. How is this addressed in other countries or cultures? Is this disease endemic to a particular area? Provide an example.

A minimum of three peer-reviewed or professional references is required.

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite. Please refer to the directions in the Student Success Center.

Introduction
Epidemiology refers to the study of the reasons why a certain health condition befalls
certain people and coming up with possible solutions to control the situation. The main key points
revolve around, the frequency, causes, and events that lead to the existence of a certain illness. To
get all this kind of information, nursing research comes in handy, to help in the process of
developing the knowledge on ways of promoting health care, taking care of people with certain
disabilities and also come up with steps that can be taken to ensure that the population is positively
receptive of any changes that need to be made. This makes sure a certain illness does not take a
toll on people. One disease that would affect a population would be that of Tuberculosis, and so
requires strategies put in place, to ensure it is well managed so that it does not spread, nor lead to
a lot of deaths.
Tuberculosis Description
Tuberculosis, also known as TB, is an airborne disease, usually caused by a bacteria called
Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which affects the lungs of a person. It is a communicable disease, as
it is usually spread from one person to the other by means of air. Usually, it does not spread so
easily, but when it is not treated early, it persists to become active TB, which can then spread,
when a person sneezes or coughs. According to the CDC, an agency that supports the promotion,
prevention, and preparedness of the country for all kind of illnesses, the number of people with
active TB ranges between 9,000 and 10,000 in the U.S. It is most definitely, important that
epidemiology is done to determine its distribution, causes, and events of the disease, and so come
up with ways to deal with the issue at hand.

TB can be divided into two, active and latent, where latent is the state when the bacteria is
in an inactive state, while the action is when the bacteria can be transmitted from one person to the
other. Some of the signs a TB patient might exhibit include, persistent coughs, which might last
for more than three weeks, coughing blood as part of the sputum with pain in the chest as one
breathes or coughs. A person might also lose weight in an unplanned manner, something that might
raise an alarm as they did not intend to do so. One may also experience a lot of tiredness, fever,
and a lot of sweating at night. Chills might also come down their bodies, accompanied by lack of
appetite. It is usually transmitted through, the air, where the Mycobacterium tuberculosis is carried
from one person to the other. It is usually from a person with the disease, through coughing,
sneezing, shouting or even singing. The bacterium usually travels through the air, by particles
known as droplet nuclei, which once suspended into the air, a person then inhales it which moves
to the lungs and develops in the system, if not detected early enough (Magee, Gandhi & Kornfeld,
2018).
Some of the complications that might result from this illness include hemoptysis, where a
person coughs blood stained mucus from the respiratory system. Anoth...
