Running head: TESTING & QUALITY ASSURANCE Tejashree Patel Professor Goyden CMGT- 445 Testing & Quality Assurance December 17, 2018 Testing & Quality Assurance 1 TESTING & QUALITY ASSURANCE 2 This is the final phase of the overall software implementation process and for this reason; the main idea behind this particular plan is to ensure that the users of the software are able to test the software and verify that it has the capability to work and meet all the requirements in a realworld environment (Takanen et al., 2018). This particular phase is as important as any other phase of the overall software implementation process and for this reason, it should not be neglected by any means. In our case, the overall software testing and quality assurance will be conducted by our various stakeholders who include people such as the: system owner, system designer, project manager, marketing and sales team, and human resource manager and the reason behind this is actually to ensure that all of the stakeholders who will be the users of the system actually accept the system before it is deployed to the real-life environment. For this reason, the main phases behind this particular plan include the following: Gathering the Key Acceptance Requirements These are the main requirements that are actually going to be evaluated by the user so as to check if the overall software meets all these requirements and thus if the software passes the test then it means that users will accept it and also it means that it will be fit for user use in a reallife scenario (Takanen et al., 2018). For this reason, it is important that all these requirements are gathered before the actual planning for the testing phase has started. Software Functionality This is one of the main acceptance requirement that will be needed to be gathered before the actual plan for the testing phase begins and for this reason it is important to sit down with one of the main stakeholders for this particular software so as to acquire all the necessary information that the owner and the other stakeholders will be expecting from the actual software during the testing period. TESTING & QUALITY ASSURANCE 3 Contract We will also have to review the actual contract that was created before the implementation process began and the main reason for this is because we want to ensure that all the requirements stated in the contract are all met and nothing is omitted (Takanen et al., 2018). If this is the case, then it means our stakeholders will actual acceptance the software even before the testing phase begins and the reason for this is because they would have already gained out trust if the confirm that we have met all their requirements given in the contract. Defining the Scope Involvement In the testing phase, usually, there is no involvement between the implementers and the clients when it comes to testing the program and the main reason is that the user is the person that is supposed to check and clarify that the software meets his goals. For this reason, we will have to give the user his space in this particular time of the implementation process. The Assistance of the User Acceptance Testing In case the users experience any kind of difficulty when testing the software, it is important for us to assist them so that they can get more out of the software (Taylor, 2018). In addition to this, when it comes to assisting the users, we are supposed to train them on how to use the software where do not understand. This is the only part that we are supposed to play in the actual testing phase. Performing the User Acceptance Testing & the Presentation of the Final Results TESTING & QUALITY ASSURANCE 4 In this particular instance, the users are supposed to point out the main areas where they want to evaluate and for this reason, the quality assurance team will perform the actual testing of the area and thereafter they will have to present the results to the user. After this, is when the user will evaluate the results so as to clarify if they meet all the needs. User Acceptance Testing Plan This is where the overall planning phase begins and the following are the main points behind the actual plan: Who Are To Perform The Test? In this kind of case, the main people that will be involved in the actual testing of the software will be both the users and the software testers (Taylor, 2018). The software tester’s work will be to test the areas pointed out by the users and the user’s work will be evaluated and giving feedback based on the final results. Environment The testing will be performed in a computer laboratory that has various computers with different kinds of operating systems and also with a projector that will be used to display the final results and also to train the users on how to use the software. Hardware The hardware needed for successful completion of this particular project will be different kinds of CPUs such as Dell, HP, and Lenovo and they should have different kinds of operating systems so that the software can be tested on different platforms in order to check if it can work as required in different kinds of platforms (Taylor, 2018). Methods & Procedures TESTING & QUALITY ASSURANCE 5 Black Box Testing This is a method of testing software in which the internal design, structure, and the implementation of the application are not known to the actual testers of the software (Zhu et al., 2018). This test is both a functional and a non-functional type of test. The test designs for this particular type of test include such things as cause and effect graphing, equivalence portioning, and boundary value analysis. White Box Testing This is a type of testing in which the internal design, structure, and the implementation of the software are known to the actual testers and for this particular reason, the tester will have to help the users in this particular case (Zhu et al., 2018). The design techniques for this particular testing include such things as data flow testing, control flow testing, path testing, and branch testing. Gray Box Testing This is a method that combines both the black box testing and the white box testing but usually, it is a method of testing whereby the tester does not have any knowledge of the internal components of the software and the testing itself is meant for debugging the software. Data Conversion Plan All the data concerning the software will be stored in an external hardware and thus when needed during the testing phase, the hardware device will be inserted in the various computer systems where the testing will be done and thereafter it will be executed so as to be tested (Zhu et al., 2018). This will be done in order to check if the program can run effectively in different kinds of platforms. In case there is a need for bulk conversion of data, then we will use the ERP software to make work easier for us when it comes to this particular task. The captured record will enable the management to monitor student’s performances by reflecting on their assignments and grading, monitor students’ account details and enable the students to register different units in different semesters. The system user manual facilitates in easy training. It contains all the steps and procedures required to use the system. System documentation This is a booklet prepared by the system developers to show all the procedures used in designing and developing the system. It contains all the modules used and system codes used to develop the system. System documentation enables the developer in making updating the systems and understands the system functionalities. Outsourcing services Many companies opt to outsource services due to a lack of internal expertise. There are other reasons other than lack of expert knowledge. Companies opt to outsource services to maximize business performance and to eliminate more workforces. Outsourcing has major benefits to a company. These may include the provision of expert services and professionalism. The main disadvantage is that outsourcing can be expensive for the company. Developing software in-house may lack some of the expert skills and lack of proficiency to develop the required system. Also, the company may lack the implementation team that outsourcing company has.
