is an equation of the line formed in this forme  :  
5x - 8y - 9 = 0 
so : 
5x - 8y  = 9
-8y = 9 - 5x 
y = -9/8 + (5/8)x
y = (5/8)x - 9/8 

and we have this equation pass thru (-1,6)

so : y=- 5/8 - 9/8 = - 14/8 = -7/4 =/= 6 

so the point (-1,6) 

is not thru this line :
