Question description

As you read recently, people have different reasons for joining groups. Schutz, remember, says this is because of interpersonal needs. But as you’ve now just read, every group has particular norms that will guide (either implicitly or explicitly) how people are “allowed” or expected to behave in them – regardless of their own personal needs/desires.

Identify a group you were sort of “required” to join. You may have “chosen” to join it, but felt you had to for some reason (e.g., for work, to get ahead socially or in school, for prestige, access, etc.), so it wasn’t entirely voluntary for yourself. Then, identify and discuss some of the norms of this group that you don’t particularly like personally, because of some of your own interpersonal tastes/preferences/needs.

Make sure to explain how it does/doesn’t match up to your needs & why that is; the level of explicit/implicitness of those norms and how that’s good and bad, etc.; and provide detailed examples of all these ideas as you discuss them. also use the key terms from the reading and bold them.

coursework. What worse, professors had already started handing out assignments. I had no clue
where to begin; I didn’t even understand the notes given to me by my classmates. Some of my
classmates had a group where they met twice a week to discuss the coursework. They had
previously invited me to join, but I had declined. The offer was still standing, and at the time it
