Running Head: INTEGRATIONIST PERSPECTIVES
Integration plays an essential role in the field of science. Psychology and theology are
sciences which can be integrated to determine the level of compatibility in these two areas. This
integration requires a deep understanding of what is at hand. This study examines personcentered, behavior and Gestalt therapy in light of the scripture. Psychology and theology overlap
but they are different fields.
Person-centered therapy has some concepts which are compatible with the scripture. The
importance of self-actualization is scripturally acceptable when it is understood that our greatest
need is to view reality Biblically and know God. As such, a Christian counselor should consider
respect, growth, and acceptance when dealing with a client.
The empathic understanding concept is compatible with scriptural divine agape love
(DMin, 2014). Understanding focuses on the wellbeing of a client and shows a high level of a
counselor's support and concern. The therapist should express this condition to help the client
recover from the underlying psychological problem.
