Introduction

In today’s world communication has been regarded as the primary key to understanding
each other and being on the same agreement. Communication takes very many forms but, in this
case, I will take a look at a speech which is regarded as a verbal communication from an
individual to an audience. Speeches pass down a conversation, but in this case, the person
delivering the speech has to factor in various aspect concerning preparations to the speech.
Below I will discuss the ten steps that are essential in the preparation of a speech if it is to be
successful in passing a communication to the audience. Let’s all assume that I am to give a
speech on the importance of taking good care of a library in an institution.
First six steps in preparing for a speech
Select a topic
To deliver the speech accurately, I have to prepare for it, and I have to consider the first step
which is selecting a topic. In this case, I have selected the topic which is the importance of taking
good care of a library in an institution. A topic is critical since it gives the audience a sense of
what is going to be addressed and they can even come prepared with their intake to the topic. In
choosing a topic, the speaker has to consider an aspect that is pressing either in an institution or
society. It is also important that the speaker considers a sensitive topic that can be generally
addressed and this will be discussed in the second step of preparation. The selection of a topic is
the most important part because without the selection of a topic then there is no way in which I
as the intended speaker can continue with the other steps in preparation (DeVito, 2016). In the
