Question description

In this Assignment, you will apply the information you have learned regarding boundaries and dual relationships to the analysis of a real life scenario:

Ms. C was a case manager at an outpatient clinic that provided a variety of services. One of her clients was Ms. R, who was receiving services as a result of a recent divorce. Ms. C had also experienced a divorce in her past and thought she had effectively dealt with that experience, but found herself identifying with many comments made by Ms. R.

Through their work together, the two women realized they shared many common interests. They often found themselves talking about these shared interests in their time together and eventually began meeting for coffee after their sessions. Ms. R soon suggested they begin spending additional time together socially and Ms. C agreed. Before long, they became fast friends, spending a significant amount of social time together on evenings and weekends, visiting clubs, going to movies or visiting local restaurants.

After several months, the two had a falling out about a gentleman both women favored. Ms. R filed a complaint with the Regulatory agency in her state about the relationship.

In a 4–6 page paper, analyze the implications of these events. Use the internet and the Library to investigate the harmful effects of such a relationship on all parties involved: Ms. R, the helping relationship and for Ms. C. Discuss both the social and emotional impacts of such a relationship as well as their effects on the treatment relationship. Use specific examples. Discuss the likely outcome of Ms. R’s complaint if it was filed in your state (FL). Finally, discuss strategies to minimize the likelihood of such a relationship arising in your practice.

Your Assignment should:

  • Be presented in the form of a well-written graduate level document
  • Use an essay format, 12 point font, and double spacing
  • Be 4–6 pages in length, not including the title and reference pages
  • Include a title page and reference page
  • Including at least two references in support of your observations and conclusions using proper APA citation and reference formatting

All work should be in your own words with quotes used very sparingly. Please be sure to answer every question within the body of your paper. The Library offers you credible articles from which to draw your supportive references.

Effects of dual relationships
Human services are faced with a number of challenges that arise in the course of
helping. One of these challenges is dual relationships. As defined by Reamer (2012), dual
relations arise when a human service professional establishes multiple roles with a client. An
example of these dual relationships is the involvement of sexual relations between the human
service professional and the client. While some of these relations are motivated by
benevolence or altruism in that they could be meant to benefit the client, Reamer (2012)
warns that human service professionals should be cautious as these relations could not only be
unethical, but they could also negatively affect service delivery and the results while at the
same time raising the chances of exploitation. In the provided case, for instance, Ms. C is
involved in a friendship with her client that results in increased social involvement and
visiting of social joints between the two parties during the evenings and over the weekends. It
is through this relationship that the two find themselves sharing an interest in a man, a factor
that leads to their fall out and the subsequent filing of a case against Ms. C by her client – Ms.
R. This paper will analyze the effects of dual relationships to both parties in similar cases, the
outcomes of the complaint in Florida, and provide a number of strategies that human service
professionals could use to minimize cases of dual relationships.
There are various negative effects of dual relationships to the human service
profession...

Tutor went the extra mile to help me with this essay. Citations were a bit shaky but I appreciated how well he handled APA styles and how ok he was to change them even though I didnt specify. Got a B+ which is believable and acceptable.
