Instructions

This assignment is intended to guide you in the development of a clear, focused, and logically organized literature review to be used for the actual development of the literature review. Begin by reviewing the literature you have synthesized in this course. Identify several emergent themes to use to organize a literature review. Create an outline including the following:

  • One sentence introducing the research topic.
  • A list of the themes you identified in the literature reviewed so far in this course.
  • One sentence noting the theoretical framework(s) used to support the basis of the topic.
  • Two to three sentences noting identified gaps in the research knowledge base leading to support for the research topic.

Length: 1-2 pages, not including title or reference pages

Your assignment should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards. Be sure to adhere to Northcentral University's Academic Integrity Policy.

I've attached a copy of the synthesized articles.

Running Head: TECHNOLOGY, ITS EFFECT ON TEACHING IN HIGHER EDUCATION Technology, Its Effect on Teaching in Higher Education 1 TECHNOLOGY, ITS EFFECT ON TEACHING IN HIGHER EDUCATION 2 Technology, Its Effect on Teaching in Higher Education Commonalities The authors of researches explore the importance and the impact of technology on the learning styles, both to the students and to the teachers. From the studies, though they do not have similar theoretical aspects, they have a positive take on the use of technology in the higher learning education. It is evident that the embracing of technology has resulted in radical changes in the universities and especially making it easier for students to get a lot of content. Additionally, it has enabled the teachers to enrich their content in class and others going to extent of communication with students' online and setting term papers and disseminating them online. Most of the study aimed to develop the importance of technology in the lives of students in learning. The studies aimed to investigate on the learning and teaching styles are affected by technology. For those that focused on the teaching styles the participants of the study aimed at the teacher and students (Al-Hariri & Al-Hattami, 2017; Viorica-Torii & Carmen, 2013; Price & Kirkwood, 2014). Through the use of a questionnaire which is dominant in the studies helped to collect the important information on the organization information and how technology had changed the teaching styles. It is evident that most of the studies' results show great improvement of the teaching styles in those who have an early adoption of educational technology. Some of the activities that the teachers have engaged in the use of technology include teaching using the technology, setting papers and enriching their content that has greatly improved the teaching process (Jamil & Shah, 2011). Additionally, the studies that concentrated on the students was also conducted using a questionnaire and groups of students were used in the study. The results and the finding on the learning styles indicates that through the use of technology, it has enabled the student to improve their understandability and ability to store large volumes of information. TECHNOLOGY, ITS EFFECT ON TEACHING IN HIGHER EDUCATION 3 The classification of the use of technology ranges from the use of mobile phones, tablets and laptops. The use of the gadgets has enabled the embracing of technology in the universities and also helped to use it all the times. Additionally, it acted as a better link between the student and the teachers during class time and off the class time. Differences Theoretical Concept The main difference is the theoretical concept of the studies which vary with the setting of the study and the objectives of the study. According to Jamil & Shah (2011), they aimed to concentrate on the potential effects of technology on the teaching in the higher education. This centered on the traditional teaching practices and how they had improved through technology. Additionally, the study was to explore whether the study was student centered or teacher centered and how technology helped in the achievement of the educational goals. According to Al-Hariri & Al-Hattami (2017), they conducted a survey study in the five colleges of the Damman University to purposely how technology has helped the physiology courses. The main objective of their study was to show the relationship between technology and the achievement that students have acquired. The study concentrated on the students' benefits other than the teachers. Also, the theoretical concept of the study carried by Carmen & Viorica-Torii (2013) concentrated on the impact of educational technology on the learning styles. The objectives of the study included identification of learning styles, involving the technological experiments in the learning styles and forming a system that is interactive for the future line of work. Montrieux et al., (2015) used an exploration of the mobile technology and how it has affected the secondary education. TECHNOLOGY, ITS EFFECT ON TEACHING IN HIGHER EDUCATION 4 Sample Size All of the investigations used different sample size in their studies. The article by Jamil and Shah 2011, aimed to target a population of 132 universities both private and public. The study sampled a total of 40 universities that were found in Punjab since the researchers thought that they would meet the requirement and help in achieving the objectives of the study. The target group included the teachers of various departments, but no consideration of students at all in the study. A study done at Dammam University used a sample size of 231 students (Al-Hariri & Al-Hattami, 2017). The study concentrated on the second year students who were studying physiology in either of the five colleges of the university. A qualitative study conducted on the introduction of tablet devices in schools and how they affected the learning styles focused on a sample size of 39 students and 18 teachers. The study, unlike others included carrying exploring the effect from the teachers' side of view and that of students to assure the quality of the results. Another study that was a critical review of the use of technology in the higher learning used a sample size of 159 participants (Price & Kirkwood, 2014). So the highest number of participants in the studies included 231 and the least number of participants 57. Methodology and Data Collection Most of the studies used a questionnaire to collect the information from the participants. The difference in those that used the questionnaire differed on the presentation of the question where one study divided it into two major parts that were presented to the staffs (Jamil & Shah, 2011). Moreover, part one included the general information about the university while the other part concentrated on the aims of the study on the impact of technology. The other study used a yes or no questionnaire where the respondents had to give reasons for their yes or no (Viorica Torii & Carmen, 2012). Lastly, the article Price & Kirkwood, 2014, used data collection methods TECHNOLOGY, ITS EFFECT ON TEACHING IN HIGHER EDUCATION 5 where they used the interviews and open-ended questionnaires. Though most of the study use questionnaire to obtain the information they have the different presentation that focused to meet their objectives. Recurring Concepts The concept that repeats itself in the study includes is the both the teacher and the students in the studies shows a positive impact on their activities with the use of technology in higher learning (Al-Hariri & Al-Hattami, 2017; Viorica-Torii & Carmen, 2013; Price & Kirkwood, 2014). Additionally, most other studies wanted to develop the impacts of tech on the learning styles. The finding agrees that it has been easier for students and having helped them adopt a different style than those who have not embraced technology. Consequently, some of the studies leave it for future studies to explore the personal relationship between technology and learning styles. Additionally, some of the literature reviews in the study did not have the strong support of the title and that makes it a future work to ensure that the results are valid and can be used to generalize across other higher education institutions. In conclusion, it clear that there is a positive impact of technology, both to the teachers and to the students through the use of Technology. Teachers are able to set and reach their students online and also give assignments. The students are able to access more information and get more knowledge compared to when there is a lack of technology. Additionally, they are able to store a volume of information. Only issue was the guy's response time which was a bit long, which made me a bit anxious. Reached out to the help desk and they helped me out, turns out the tutors aren't all from US which meant there was a time difference. No issues on the quality.
