This assignment will assess the competency 1. Outline system analysis and design concepts from CI4221; 2. Plan an information systems project; 3. Implement an information systems project; 4. Facilitate a system implementation rollout; and 5. Plan information systems maintenance.

Directions: For this assignment your team will develop a project proposal for an information system design for an organization. Your final project will be a compilation of each phase of the development of your project.

PROJECT CHECKLIST: Your final TEAM Project must include the following components:

Executive Summary (briefly describe the context, content summary, highlights)

Current Situation (background, business needs; constraints)

System Objectives (functionalities)

Solution Description (approaches and alternatives)

Resources needed (people, training, equipment)

Cost estimates, anticipated benefits leading to economical feasibility

Technical and Operational (organizational) feasibilities

Schedule (major activities and timelines; use a GANTT chart)

Conclusion (risks, if any; additional notes)

Appendix (if any, providing additional supporting details)

Requirements Specification:

Executive Summary (summary of report content and highlights)

Revised Cost (no need to examine the benefits)

Revised Schedule (for design, implementation – in some detail)

Process Description of the System (using context and DFDs)

Data Description of the System (using ERDs)

Conclusion (any identified risks, your plans on further work)

Appendices (needed only if you have any additional pertinent material)

Design Specification:

Executive Summary (design report summary)

Revisions to Schedule (refine schedule for the remaining activities)

General System Design (system architecture, network model)

Physical DFDs and ERDs (for the four phases)

User Interface Designs (for both input and output)

Process Design (structure chart; apply design concepts)

Database Design (3rd normal form and optimization -using ERDs)

Test Plans (integration and system testing along with test cases)

Blueprint for Selected subsystems:

Executive Summary (what is being delivered; limitations if any)

Working Code / System (source /program listing)

Quality Assurance: Test cases, Test Data and Test Results

User Manual

Systems Manual (analysis and design artifacts - compilation)

General Technical Writing Guidelines:

Include a title page and reference page.

Use APA style, one-inch margins, double spaced, use a “12” point font. (Arial or Times New Roman) Include appropriate references (citations where necessary).

Fred’s shops develop both in size and in number, there is a need to have a technological system
that will help in the management of both the inventory, the pricing of the goods as well as the
performance of the employees. The Point of sale that comes with a remote connection that links
multiple shops in different physical location will be ideal for Fred’s three shops. However, that
may not be enough because beyond training the employees on how to handle the new
technological system, Fred has to develop useful information that can be processed from the
sales data that can help him make decisions on the pricing of the surfing boards, cost of repair,
performance of the employees and to know the board design and models that have higher
Initiation Phase:
The initiating process group consists of the activities required to define a new project.
This phase obtains approval to start the project, defines the initial scope, confirms initial
financial commitments, defines stakeholders, and selects a project manager (Project Management
Institute, 2013). In the initiation phase of the Alliance Prototype project, the project charter was
approved by the stakeholders, the initial scope and finances were confirmed, and the project
manager was selected. The scope of the project was to build a fully demonstrable website with
less than 12 known defects, and the approved budget was $50,000.
Planning Phase:
The planning phase consists of processes performed to confirm the total scope of the
project, define objectives, develop the course of action required to complete these objectives and
develop the documents that will be used to carry out the project (Project Management Institute,
2013). For the Alliance Prototype project, the project manager first reviewed all the reference
documents available in order to gain a thorough understanding of the project and the

organization. The reference documents used were the project charter, company policies, the
organization chart, the work breakdown structure, the task description, and staff profiles.
After reviewing the reference documents and gathering the information necessary, the
project manager completed the budget, resources, risks/reserves, recognition plan, stakeholder
plan, and the training plan. The budget was an important consideration when researching
information on the tasks and assigning the right resources for the project.
After careful consideration, the project manager planned the budget below for the project.
