The article introduces Stuxnet as the cyber-infiltration program that infected thousands of
computers across the world, though initially designed and targeted to destabilize operations in
the Natanz nuclear facility in Iran by significantly reducing the efficiency of enrichment
centrifuges in almost undetectable ways. The cyber worm was uniquely designed and entirely set
apart structurally from all other potential threats because it particularly embedded itself into
industrial control systems that ran and monitored large-scale industrial operations, such as the
Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems (SCADA). The discovery of Stuxnet and its
characteristics had far-reaching implications and set the stage for discussion on the ethics of
Cyberweapons and the laws of war in general.
When Ralph Langner and his team of German cyber experts dissected the code of the
Stuxnet worm, they discovered that it had up to four new ‘zero days' and it contained digital
seals with the private certificate keys stolen from certain well-known corporates. The number of
