A population of scores with µ (mean) = 73 and σ (SD)= 20 is standardized to create a new population with µ = 50 and σ = 10.  What is the new value for each of the following scores from the original population? 

Scores to transform:  63, 65, 77, 83

for 63, z  = (X - µ)/σ = ( 63 - 73)/20 = -10/20 = -0.5
X= µ + zσ = 50 + (-0.5)(10) = 50 -5 = 45

for 65, z  = (X - µ)/σ = (65-73)/20 = -8/20
X= µ + zσ = 50 + (-8/20)(10) = 50 -4 = 46

for 77, z  = (X - µ)/σ = (77-73)/20 = 4/20
X= µ + zσ = 50 + (4/20)(10) = 52

for 83, z  = (X - µ)/σ = (83 -73)/20 = 10/20 = 0.5
X= µ + zσ = 50 +(0.5)(10) = 55
