Select an organization and prepare a strategic plan to grow the business over the next three years. Your strategic plan must include the following:

  • Describe your organization’s history, products, and major competitors.
  • Explain the current situation of the organization in the market.
  • Conduct a SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and trends) to determine areas that offer opportunities for change.
  • Choose at least three areas from your SWOT analysis and explain why the areas you have chosen are essential to your strategic plan. Use theories and examples from your text and additional sources to support your rationale.
  • Explain your method to measure the success of your strategic plan.

Your paper must be eight to ten pages in length (excluding the title and reference pages) and formatted according to APA style guidelines as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. In addition, you must use at least three scholarly sources, in addition to the text. Remember to incorporate information that you have learned from this course as well as your personal experience.

Your Final Project

  • Must be eight to ten double-spaced pages in length and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
  • Must include a title page with the following:
    • Title of paper
    • Student’s name
    • Course name and number
    • Instructor’s name
    • Date submitted
  • Must include an introductory paragraph with a succinct thesis statement.
  • Must address the topic of the paper with critical thought. If possible, provide the context of a first-person experience where you saw this academic concept in operation.
  • Must conclude with a restatement of the thesis and a conclusion paragraph.

Microsoft Corporation which was created by Bill Gates and Paul Allen in 1975 is the most
successful software company in the World. Microsoft is the leading developer of personal
computer software systems, hybrid tablet computers, computer peripherals both input and output
devices and it also offers email services. Microsoft is among the most valuable companies in the
World with a brand value of $6.2 billion. Microsoft unified all its range of products under the
Microsoft brand and made use of advertisements and constant innovations to ensure that they
maintained visibility and kept up with the advancements in technology. Microsoft has been
successful in maintaining its brand image over the years through the use of effective marketing
and a wide range of new product launches. Microsoft struggle to become the browser leader led
to a lot of controversies that affected its sales and the competition from Apple’s consumerfriendly products contributed to its slight falter (Nummela et al, 2016). In this paper, we will be
preparing a strategic plan to grow Microsoft Company business over the next three years.
After the recession period, Microsoft expanded into Google’s dominant position in the
search marketplace which led to its development of a search engine known as Bing. Microsoft
also entered the growing mobile industry by developing windows phone mobile operating
system. The company’s expansion into the mobile industry was a great surprise to many analysts
but the company was successful in establishing great innovations in smart phones and Windows
Phone mobile OS which created a great connection among consumers around the World. The
Company maintained its momentum in its innovation in the mobile industry and by 2012 they
developed a computer called the Surface Tablet which had a detachable keyboard which also



served as its protective cover. These expansions were good areas of growth for Microsoft since
they were able to focus on customer value, satisfaction, loyalty and keep up with their
Microsoft’s primary competitors comprise of Apple, Google and IBM. Microsoft being a
diversified company offering a wide range of products and services it faces stiff competitions in
several key areas. Apple has an advantage of its value proposition to their customers since they
have maintained great margins through a combination of innovation and marketing that has
influenced consumer preference to their products although the disadvantage is their prices which
discourage purchase by consumers. Google has also had an advantage of its value proposition to
their customers through their provision of multi-sided business platform model pattern that offers
free platform for web suffers to search the internet the disadvantage of Google to its customers is
its limited functionality as compared to other website builders. IBM advantage in its value
proposition to their customers is the availability of cognitive computing which has great benefits
to businesses while its disadvantages is that IBM’s programs require a relatively high level of
skills (Anderson et al, 2016).
