Difference between Neo liberal institutionalism and Neo Functionalism
Neoliberal institutionalism it is the principal view which involves roles of the
international institutions have been actively carried out in the international relations both
politically and economically. While Neo-functionalism involves theories of regional integration,
which works down the globe to help in introducing, the territory reforms to aid in the governance
of member states. Both reforms are aiming at international integration but they have both
common and different approaches in achieving their goals. Their differences include, Neoliberalism is aimed at promoting mediation to solve international problems, like political and
economic sanctions that are usually in various boundaries of states (Grieco, 2008). It helps in
promoting innovation of technology, which will later create interdependence among the nations,
in terms of development. On the other hand, Neo-functionalism is an approach that helps in
solving territory problems of the major states in the world. For instance, it has the mandate to
improve, territories for international organizations to aid in activities like tax collection,
promotion of peace which will in turn help in solving the interstate crisis. Therefore, the two
approaches are international based but each and every approach is aiming at solving some
specific problem that will help in creating development, peace, and unity. Organizations like UN,
WTO are used by Neo-liberalism while, neo-functionalism uses approaches like spillover, elite
socialization and super-national (Grieco, 2008).
