What did farmers neglect to realize about their new land (in terms of farming technique)? How did this play as a contributing factor to the Dust Bowl?

Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!

The farmers did not realize that the land in Texas Colorado and Oklahoma was light. They therefore overexploted it by keeping a lot of cattle(ranching). When drought struck(1934) the soil dried. Then winds blew up the light top soil hence causing a devastating dust storm that affected many activities in a large agricultural land and its environs (the dustbowl).

Please let me know if you need any clarification. I'm always happy to answer your questions.
