For example,

f(x) = x/2 is a function because each input x has a single output x/2

f(2) = 1

f(16) = 8

f( -10) = -5

Now for the equation

X – 6 + 4y = 4

Simplify:

X + 4y – 6 = 4

X + 4y-6 + 6 = 4 + 6

X + 4y = 10 ; it is not a function because there is two variable or two inputs values. Each input does not have a single output values.

F( 2) = 2+4y = 10 , not a function
