Difference between resistance and resistivity

Jun 28th, 2015

Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!

Resistance:

  • a property of a conductor by virtue of which the passage of current is opposed, causing the transformation of electrical energy into heat energy.
  • it's symbol is 'R'
  • it can be calculate by; R =V/I
  • it's unit is ohms.
Resistivity:
  • the quantity measures of the material opposition to the flow of current is called resistivity.
  • it's symbol is Ρ (rho).
  • it can be calculated through; resistivity=RA/L
  • it's unit is ohm*m
Please let me know if you need any clarification. I'm always happy to answer your questions.
