Description
Distinguish between blood plasma and serum.
Explanation & Answer
Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!
Plasma
is the largest single component of blood, making up about 55% of total
blood volume. Plasma is the liquid part of blood. Its
function is to keep the Red Blood Cells together, in the form of a
liquid, which we call as blood.
Serum
is a yellowish liquid that leaks out of an unhealed wound. When skin
gets cut at some point, White Blood Cells come over immediately to that
part of the body and start killing the entering germs. Finally, when the
work is completed, all the dead White Blood Cells, dead germs and lot of
plasma comes out of the wound in the form of serum. Serum also refers to blood plasma in which clotting factors
(such as fibrin) have been removed
