Review the immune system anatomy and physiology and compare this to something you already know about in the home, office, or factory. Compare at least three elements of the immune system. For example, the lymph node works in a similar way to an air filter in an office system duct. Be as detailed as you can. Include in your discussion how the immune system contributes to the homeostasis of the body. For example, does the item to which you are comparing the immune system have a similar function?
Use your personal experience, if it's relevant, to support or debate other students' posts. If differences of opinion occur, debate the issues professionally and provide examples to support opinions.

In this writing assignment, you explore the anatomical structures of the immune system and how immunity is affected by diseases and disorders.

Step 1 Research one disease or disorder of the immune system.
(I do not want to see submissions on leukemia. Type I diabetes is acceptable, but not the best choice. If you do your paper on diabetes, the emphasis should be on the immune system aspect of it, not the complications of the disease.)
Research an immune system disorder or disease. Write a one-to-two-page (250- to 500-word) paper that addresses the following directions:
- Describe the disease including the causes, signs and symptoms, diagnostic procedures, and potential treatment.
- Describe the immune system and other organs that are involved or damaged by the disease or disorder.
- Describe how the immune system works and how it malfunctions in this disease or disorder. Relate it to the normal functioning of immunity.
- Identify how this disease interferes with the homeostasis of the body.
- Explain whether this disease is prevalent in a particular phase or age of life.
YOUR SUBMISSION MUST BE ON A DISEASE or CONDITION THAT PRIMARILY AFFECTS THE IMMUNE SYSTEM, NOT ONE THAT HAS JUST A LITTLE TO DO WITH IT.
