The avg rate of change between two points x= 1 and x= 2 can be calculated as the slope of 

 line between (af(a)) and (bf(b)).


So slope = (y2 - y1) /( x2- x1)

Slope = (11- 18) / (1-2)

Slope = 7

So the avg rate of change is 7.
