Just like in other industries, competition is a vital part of growth in the textile industry.
However, there are challenges that this industry faces in the United States due to the presence of
similar products from other countries at a lower price. These challenges can be explored through
factors such as job loss, textile organizations, consumer rights, free trade, and foreign trade
opportunities.

Preferences in consumers for product manufacturers of items such as electronics, apparel,
and steel have shifted from one country to another. However, for over two hundred years, the
United States has been the unquestionable leader in the international cotton industry in nearly all
measurable ways. According to a 2002 report, ‘Cultivating poverty,' by a British charity named
Oxfam, the reason for the success of cotton farmers in the U.S is government subsidies. In 2003,
some of the poorest countries accused the subsidies of blocking their route out of poverty in the
World Trade Organization's (WTO) trade talks. In 2004, cotton subsidies were tabled (Rivoli,
2015).
Over the years since 1921, the cotton and garment industry grew and evolved. As of 1980,
