How do I solve this equation by factoring?

x(squared) + 5x - 6 = 0

Jun 29th, 2015

x^2 +5x-6 =0

Choose two numbers such that the sum is +5 and product is -6

so the numbers are +6 and -1 .

so x^2 +5x-6 = (x+6) (x-1) = 0

so either (x+6) = 0 or (x-1) = 0

 so x= -6 and x=1

Please let me know if you need any clarification. I'm always happy to answer your questions.
