A 0.226 kg baseball is thrown with a
speed of 10.9 m/s. It is hit straight back at
the pitcher with a final speed of 9.65 m/s.
a) What is the magnitude of the impulse delivered to the ball?Answer in units of kg ·m/s.

b) Find the average force exerted by the bat on
the ball if the two are in contact for 0.00161s.
Answer in units of N.

(a) impulse = mass* change in velocity

                   = 0.226*(10.9 -9.65)

                   = 0.2825kg.m/sec

(b) Force = impulse/time

               = 0.2825/0.00161

               = 175.47 N 

It will be retarding force as final velocity is less than initial velocity.
