The beryllium isotope 4Be is unstable and decays into two α particles (helium nuclei of mass 6.68 ×10^−27 kg) with the release of
1.43 ×10^ −14 J of energy.
Determine the velocities of the two α particles that arise from the decay of a  4Be nucleus at rest, assuming that all the energy appearsas kinetic energy ofthe particles.

Answer in units of m/s

Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!

(1/2)mv^2 = (1/2)1.43*10^-14    as there are two particles. We divide energy by 2.

v= sqrt(1.43*10^-14/6.68*10^-27) = 1.463*10^6 m/sec

Hence, particle velocity = 1.463*10^6 m/sec

Please let me know if you need any clarification. I'm always happy to answer your questions.
