A 59.0-kg ice skater is moving at 3.93 m/s when she grabs the loose end of a rope, the opposite end of which is tied to a pole. She then moves in a circle of radius 0.870 m around the pole.

(a) Determine the magnitude of the force exerted by the horizontal rope on her arms. (b) Compare this force with her weight.

F= (59*(3.93)^2)/0.87

F= 1047 N



w= 59(9.8)

w= 578 N

force > weight

1047N > 578

Weight is almost half of the exerted force on the rope
