Why are there so many types of diversion programs for juveniles?
There are many diversion programs because research has shown that these are particularly successful.
Quote "Proponents of diversion, however, cite studies such as one in Colorado that involved comparisons between an experimental group of diverted youth and a control group who received regular handling by the juvenile justice system. The diversion program administered individual, parental, and/or family counseling to the diverted youth group, resulting in significantly lower recidivism rates than in the control group (Pogrebin, Poole, and Regoli, 1984; see also Frazier and Cochran, 1986; Gilbert, 1977)."

Why is the juvenile justice system more focused on rehabilitation than the adult criminal justice system?
Juveniles can have further negative impacts on their way of thinking, character and behavior (such as rudeness and anger) if adult criminal justice system is applied to them, rehabilitation proves more effective according to statistics as well not only just by logic. However in serious cases the juvenile may be tried in the adult system as well. But mostly the main focus is on the point that juvenile can once again become a part of society and perhaps function properly so that there is no more offending in future, this is also the reason why juvenile courts are somewhat more informal than those for adults. Please let me know if you need any clarification.
