Explanation & Answer

Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!

Marine biologist can the chemical properties of the ocean. These are nonliving things because they are not made of carbon. Marine biologist can focus on studying the inorganic chemistry of the ocean. The chemical properties of the ocean are vital because they support the majority of life on Earth. The inorganic chemicals made up the life on Earth we know it today. For examples water and salt are inorganic chemicals that comprise in every living creatures.  Marine biologist can study water , which is made of two hydrogen joined to one oxygen atom by weak hydrogen bonds.  Water is present in the ocean as a solid, liquid, and a gas. It is regulated by temperature.  Water expand and move when heated. The greater the heat, the faster water move until it causes the hydrogen bonds to break converting liquid to gas.  Water turn to vapor at 100C.  But cold slows down water movement and water begin to crystallize forming ice.

Marine biologist can study salt, which is the most common chemical substance dissolved by ocean water. Salts are made up of electricity charged particles known ions. Salts can be positively or negatively charged and they have ions of opposite charges.  Salt in seawater is composed of sodium (Na)a nd chloride (CL). They are sometimes called sodium chloride.

Marine biologist can study how these chemicals salt and water comes from.  These minerals actually come from erosion on land, dissolution of rocks, and runoff into the ocean. They come from volcanic activity on land and in the ocean.  The hydrothermal vent activity in the deep sea have an important role in regulating seawater chemistry.

Marine biologists can study how rocks formed and how they are used by coral reefs to sustain themselves.

Marine biologist can study gases the are dissolved by seawater. Gases like carbon dioxide and nitrogen are used by phytoplankton to produce plant matter.  Marine biologist can study how carbon dioxide is contributing to the global warming because it is released into the atmosphere everyday. The global warming by these gases can increase sea level, melt ice caps, and cause changes in weather.  Global warming is a very important topic to study by marine biologist because it can destroy most life on Earth. Just look at the dinosaurs.
