Description

Me and my friend Luis have come to a conclusion that raking leaves together will get the job done the fastest.

When working by himself, shendrik can get the yard done in 4 hours. Luis can the same yard done in 6 hours. If they work together, how fast could they get the work done?

Explanation & Answer

shendrik can get the yard done in 4 hours.
So job completed by shendrik in hour = 1/4 of the job
Similarly Luis can get the yard done in 6 hours.
So job completed by shendrik in hour = 1/6 of the job Let T be the number of hours to complete the work together.
T*(1/4 + 1/6) = 1
so T * (3+2)/12 =1

So T = 12/5 hours = 2.4 hours
