RUNNING HEAD: PROGRAM PLAN 1 Program Plan January 13, 2019 PROGRAM PLAN 2 Program Plan Introduction The Cerebral Palsy and Spasticity Center at Boston Children's Hospital is located in Boston, MA. This center attends to children with cerebral palsy and associated symptoms. While combining the different approaches to managing and treating the medical condition, the hospital also dedicates its efforts to a preventive approach to cerebral palsy (Boston Children's Hospital, 2019). The institution's clinicians have extensive experience for the treatment of a full spectrum of cerebral palsy that makes the institution one of world's leading and diagnostic treatment center for cerebral palsy. Cerebral Palsy and Spasticity Center has multiple providers that patients receive care from that ensures that the management of care is more comfortable for families as well as encouraging collaboration and communication between the caring physicians. Needs Assessment Social marketing has entered the healthcare frame and has been applied for marketing and influencing health behavior. Social marketers employ communication practices that are based on mass media as well as using mediated, interpersonal, and other modes to communicate their message. Each passing year presents a change to the communication channels for health information (Evans, 2006). Challenges arise with social marketing that some of the institutions may need to address. Some of the challenges social marketers face include the increased numbers and types of health issues that compete for public attention as well as the limitation on people's time and the increased number of a communication challenge. Even though cerebral palsy is not a standard physical ability in childhood, most people misunderstand it. It, therefore, raises the issue of the need for the creation of awareness of cerebral palsy as well as assisting people to look beyond the disability. The created programs in PROGRAM PLAN 3 the healthcare institutions should ensure that it has ways of creating awareness to make people understand the causes and ways of handling it. Although Cerebral Palsy and Spasticity Center has incorporated the most traditional methods for approaching the medical condition, it should find other ways to improve. The improvement may include the adoption of a few alternative approaches such as acupuncture that has been used in China for alleviating several cerebral palsy symptoms. Acupuncture corrects the imbalance in the body and restores natural internal homeostasis through the stimulation of the various meridian points (Guo et al., 2017). Even though acupuncture may not have been considered as a scientific therapy, multiple studies indicate a high rate of symptom improvement in patients with cerebral palsy after acupuncture treatment. There is also the orthopedic surgery that is used to address the musculoskeletal ailments. Outcome The proposition of such an alternative may bring issues to some of the stakeholders who may require the use of scientific therapies. However, the provision of evidence of the improvement of symptoms after its use would present a way for adopting the alternatives. Besides, Boston Children's Hospital believes that caring for a child is both a privilege and great responsibility. The hospital's commitment for the provision of the best possible care for every patient and the family as well as the raising of the bar for quality and safety would ensure that it gets the best possible alternatives for improving the health of children. The adoption of the new program that has options would solve the cerebral problems that continue to be a challenge to some of the standard procedures. The new approaches would fit seamlessly to the hospital, as it would supplement the traditional approaches that would remain the primary methods consequently allowing for the increased success rate for treating cerebral palsy.
