hi,

Nutrient density of food refers to how much nutrients you receive through the consumption of a particular food in regards to the number of calories it contains. In other words nutrient nutrient dense foods will give higher nutrients for the fewest amount of calories. we use the nutrient  to calorie ration which ofcourse provide a more direct comparison in determining the intake of essential nutrients and the amount of energy that they provide.

Please let me know if you need any clarification. I'm always happy to answer your questions.
