Introduction
Ethnicity is defined as a group of people who identify with each other based on common
ancestral, social, cultural, or national experiences (Bomani, 2018). By embracing diversity in the
workplace, businesses can obtain a number of benefits. When employees know their workplace
embraces diversity, they are more likely to feel comfortable being themselves, and when they
feel they can be themselves, their performance will increase (Porpoise, 2017). When working
with employees from diverse backgrounds it allows us to better understand one another and hold
fewer assumptions about other cultures, and become more aware of our cultural biases that we
hold. Each and every person belongs to a certain ethnicity or cultural background. Employees in
the workplace should feel proud to be associated with their ethnicity background. Appreciating
diversity in the workplace helps the organization in coming up with programs that suits everyone
in the organization.
Diversity planning helps the organization achieve several benefits in the workplace. One
of the main benefit of diversity planning is that it increases awareness of the staff that eventually
helps on employees’ cultural competency. Cultural competency by the staff refers to the
understanding of each other different backgrounds and accommodation of the diverse culture of
