The valence electrons are the outer electrons of an atom, which are those involved in chemical
bonding, located in the valence shell, the outermost electron occupied shell of an atom. From the
valence shell to the core of the atom are located the core electrons. Usually the valence electrons
are involved in chemical bonding.
2. What is the octet rule and which elements obey the octet rule?
An atom other than hydrogen tends to form bonds until it is surrounded by eight valence electrons.
The octet rule applies mainly to the second-period elements. There are three categories to classify
