Florence scientists analyze physical evidence from crime scenes to retrieve substantial
evidence that could help solve the crime. Forensic science has in the past extensively depended
on chemistry through analysis of chemical compositions and biology through DNA profiling to
solve crimes. In 2009, a report by the National Research Council on forensic science portrayed
disappointment with how blood spatter was being analyzed. Directly, methods and tools of
modern physics have contributed to forensic science by helping forensic scientists analyze
gunshot residuals and examine fired ammunition, reconstructing materials and also simulating
crime scene targets (Grant et al. 1998). The most significant and beneficial application of physics
in forensic science is the latent fingerprint detection in criminal investigations which has helped
