Crisis Intervention Plan Purpose of the assignment: The purpose of this assignment is for you, as the crisis interventionist, to learn an organized approach when working with individuals in crisis and to be able to assess the neurological effects of crisis while establishing a sound preventative intervention approach. In addition, you are asked to be able to critically evaluate news worthy information in your community or nation to determine what constitutes crises. This challenges you to begin viewing the needs of individuals and communities through the lens of a crisis interventionist rather than an individual readings about tragic events, you become an individual reading about the possible needs of those around you, opening your therapeutic heart to reaching out to others in need, as well as your ability to assess the behavioral expression of neurological distress evident with someone in crisis mode. Being a crisis interventionist means being someone open to recognizing individuals and communities in crisis, recognizing the threats, being equipped and ready to intervene. Short of hands on experience, this is an effective way to learn intervention strategies. You will take the information from your text, knowledge from your experience in the field, along with other course work and apply it to a real life circumstance that has been reported in the media. ALTHOUGH there are three sections to this assignment it is all one assignment and must be submitted as one document. Clearly define what constitutes a crisis: We have spent up to 7 weeks discussing different types of crisis that a professional may see in their professional lifetime. This is your opportunity to clearly and succinctly discuss the neurological of crisis and the risk factors associated to a certain crisis. You will use your readings, class discussion and research to discuss in a 2-4 page paper sharing what neurological effects of crisis exist (Crisis Intervention: Neurobiology of Crisis), the risk factors, and the need for early intervention. This is a paper that is written as if you are informing/educating the general public about the significance of crisis intervention so you will want to define crisis, give examples of neurobiology of crisis, signs and symptoms of a person in crisis, and the neurological importance of intervention, listing risk factors if intervention does not occurs. Make sure to address: Read through your local newspaper, research situations reported in national news, or look into archived news for situations that would be defined as a crisis for an individual or a community: Be conscious as to the definition of crisis as you research an incident that you would like to evaluate. Examples of individual incidences would be rape case, murder in which there is a reported witness, domestic violence, substance abuse related crimes, and so on. Community type crisis would be situations such as Sandy Hook, Columbine, 911, or so on. Research the very specific incident you choose and gather as much information as you can, this information will be used to justify the treatment plan you will formulate. In a 1-2 page summation of the incident you will discuss the crisis, clearly clarifying why it constitutes a crisis (linking it to the definition of crisis) and what are the current symptoms (you can be creative with this…..I’m giving you literary privilege to make up symptoms that would be realistic for such a situation). Make sure you list as many symptoms that this certain type of crisis would entail; this is your way of showing me that you know what to look for, be specific with the symptoms so I can clearly discern you really know what to look for.
