What is asthma?
Asthma is a condition whereby the airways narrow and swell leading to the production of
more mucus. These actions make it difficult for an individual to breathe and triggers coughing,
shortness in breath and wheezing. Asthma can occur at different levels where at some it can be
just a nuisance while in others it could interfere with their lives and put them in life-threatening
situations. Asthma cannot be cured but can be controlled. Because it changes with time, patients
should work with doctors to create action plans which they can use to track their signs and
symptoms (Beasley, Semprini, & Mitchell, 2015). The action plans also consists of treatment
details which the patient can apply at different times and situations.
