Mary is six years older than little Timmy. Jane is exactly twice Timmy's age. The sum of all three is 34. Find the age of MARY

a. x=7    b. x=21  c. x=4  d. x=-11 ??????

I think the question is the about the age of Timmy and not Mary. Let the age of Timmy be 'x'

x+6+x+2x = 34

4x+6 = 34

4x =28

x = 28/4 = 7

Note: So mary's age = 13 and Jane's age = 14

Please let me know if you need any clarification. I'm always happy to answer your questions.

.Tim's age = x; Mary's age = x+6, Jane's age = 2x

Given the sum of the ages = 34

so

x+6+x+2x = 34

4x+6 = 34

4x =28

x = 28/4 = 7
