Florida Atlantic University Critical Path Method Discussion
Labor Relations David - Respond with 150 words Union strategies according to Budd (2013), is to use collective bargaining to bring about change within a company. A union would not want an employee to quit, as that would be a loss of a union member and member dues. An individual employee can use their voice and bring up issues with the union and work to solve the issue. A union can bring about change due to a collective voice of employees if there is a large issue that affects their union members. A union can call for a strike if the company does not want to come to the bargaining table and this can be a reduction in work or work absenteeism. Unions tend not to be silent when there is an injustice to their union members. Managerial strategies are to keep costs low and profits high. This can be seen as a negative if employees are not treated as humans, but as machines instead. That is why it is important to have a realistic goal of costs and profits. According to Budd (2013), when employees are pushed to work harder for less pay and threaten if failed to produce as directed can lead to disheartened employees. This can lead to employees not giving their best on the job, wanting to leave, talking with others and thoughts of creating or joining a union. According to Budd (2013), an employee may think of quitting their job if there is a chance of finding a better job due to low unemployment rates. Yet, an employee may want to keep their job if there is high unemployment rate as the there is more competition for jobs. This option on staying on the job may have an employee looking to use their voice and complain about issues, join a union, and reduction of working hours, reduction in quality of work and silence. Workers have to take into account not just their work life, but also their family life. Each worker needs to evaluate their needs and wants and how to get them. This can be determined by a family decision to join a union or fight injustices themselves. The questions to think about are things such as, can a family do without a paycheck and benefits and if so how long? What are the benefits of joining the union and will it take care of my issues at hand? What are the dues and how are they paid, and what if I want to get out of the union? These are some questions an employee may ask when deciding to join a union or use their own voice to bring about change. Decision Making What is the significance of the critical path, and what would a project manager have to do to crash a project?Respond with 100 words Suzanne The critical path method is a scheduling procedure that uses a network diagram to depict a project and the sequences of tasks required to complete it, which are known as paths. The critical path is significant when managing a project because it identifies all the tasks needed to complete the project. After that, the critical path then determines the tasks that must be done on time, tasks that can be delayed if needed and how much flexibility you have. Project crashing is the name given to schedule compression techniques when a person wants to shorten a project's duration without changing the scope. A project manager may want to crash a project for many reasons. Some of those reasons include: getting the most significant schedule compression; when part of the project jeopardizes progress; when meeting a fixed deadline; when you are delayed; when the team is needed on other work; when another resource is free; and when another resource needs training. A project manager that wants to crash a project must complete a crash analysis. There are several steps in crash analysis, those include;1. Calculate the crash cost per time period2. Using current activity times, find the critical path and identify the critical activities3. Select one critical path: select activity on this CP that (a) can still be crashed and (b) has the smallest crash cost per period. Respond with 100 words Jessica Critical Path Method (CPM) was developed in the 1950's. It was used by managers to monitor, make schedules, monitor, and control project. It was used for many reasons; "prepare work breakdown structure, develop relationships among the activities, draw networks connecting to these activities, assign time and cost for each, compute the long time path, which is called the critical path, lastly use it help plan, schedule, monitor, and control the project." (Heizer, Render, Munson, 2016) The most important step in this process is the critical path. If this is done wrong it could delay the whole entire project which means it won't be completed on time. Managers deal with instances where projects need to be reevaluated and need to be speeded up. This is call crashing, "the process by which we shorten the duration of a project in the cheapest manner possible." (Heizer, Render, Munson, 2016) One way a manager can crash a project is by adding more equipment and people. Adding more resources will shorten an activity. Crashing a project has 4 steps involved. The first step is to computer the crash cost per week, then fine the critical path, if a critical path is identified, select activities that can be sped up and that has the smallest crash cost period. Lastly update all the activity times. Marketing Respond with 100 words KiaAccording to Kotler & Armstrong (2021) companies are misusing online marketing research by collecting big data of the consumers' personal information. Many customers enjoy taking product or service surveys, however many customers also do not like being interupted by researchers. I beleive some drawbacks from from companies using online marketing research include closing the line of privacy of the customer. One example mentioned in the text Kotler & Armstrong (2021) was Target knowing that their customers were having a baby, which made the customers feel uncomfortable. According to Explorable (2021) one disadvantage of online surveys is survey fraud, becuase it gives misleading data. There has to be boundaries to companies montoring customer behavior on social media websites like Facebook, Instragram, and Twitter. I beleive it is inappropriate for companies to use tracking devices in costumer phones or laptops, to market ads and offers, unless consent is given by the customer. I do beleive that privacy issues are greater in online surveys, becuase surveys conducted by phones, has decreased. Surveys conducted by mail has decresaed, becuase most people do not open extra mail. Technology drives the world, and most people have access to a mobile device, which means more privacy leaks. I beleive respondants are more accurate in online surveys, becuase of the incentive or reward sometimes given by the company.Respond with 100 words Chrisnel While online marketing research can be a useful tool for businesses today, it does have its disadvantages that can impact businesses as well. Since social media has grown so much over the past years, so has online marketing research. As a result of the increasing online marketing survey, there are also a lot of drawbacks that seem to be associated with conducting surveys online such as privacy issues seems to be greater with online surveys than with other forms of administering surveys, such as phone, face-to-face, or mail mostly because cause the customers information from the surveys is much easier to be shared online with other partner companies or scammers. Some companies have also been known for exchanging their customer personal databases with other partner companies, which as a result can seriously violate a customer’s online security and can provide access to things such as their credit card information, home address, phone number, and other personal information that can open the door to identity theft and more. From my personal experience, privacy issues are greater with online surveys than with other forms of administering surveys, such as phone, face-to-face, or mail because hackers can steal your information such as phone numbers, address, etc to use them to their advantage. Based on the information from the textbook and personal knowledge I do believe that respondents will be more honest and accurate when completing online surveys because they don’t have to be afraid of anything since they are doing the survey online in the comfort of their own homes and won’t be recognize despite what their answers are, which allow them to give more honest and accurate feedback.
