Temperature Conversions
Two common temperature scales are Fahrenheit and Celsius. The Celsius scale is used in science and this unit will show you how to use the melting point and boiling point of water to convert between them.
Reference | Fahrenheit | Celsius |
---|---|---|
Boiling point | 212 °F | 100 °C |
Melting point | 32 °F | 0 °C |
____ | ____ | |
Difference | 180°F | 100 °C |
There are 180 Fahrenheit degrees to 100 Celsius degrees:
(180 °F / 100 °C).
If the Fahrenheit scale began at 0 instead of 32, the ratio above would be the simple conversion between scales. Since it begins at 32 instead of 0, the conversion from Celsius to Fahrenheit is:
? Fahrenheit = (180 °F /100 °C) (Celsius) + 32 °F
Reverse this equation to convert from Fahrenheit to Celsius:
? Celsius = (Fahrenheit -32 ° F) (100 ° C / 180 °F)
