Assume the role of salesperson for a fictional consumer products company calles Upland Company. Upland sells products in the business-to-business (B2B) market to mass -merchandise stores and large independent stores. Upland sells a variety of health and benefits aids through supermarkets, drugstores, mass-merchandise stores like target and Walmart, and similar retail environments. Example products include shampoo, hairspray, deodorant, skin lotions.
The sales force follows a relationship approach to selling and calls on headquarters buying offices for retail chains and independent stores. Competition in this industry is fierce and salespeople must find ways to add value just beyond just prices. Additionally, much of the income earned by Upland's salespeople come from the percentage accomplishment annual goals. The five salespeople are eager to understand the potential impact of the external factors on next year's business.
