I definitely would let my child play with them. If you don't let your daughter play with them and she sees her friends playing with them she is going to desire Barbies and possibly the idea of Barbie.
Letting your children play with Barbie dolls isn't a bad thing. If you are concerned about her body image and her comparing herself to the doll make sure she has other types of toys and sees other images. What is most important is showing her that the doll is a toy and implementing in her mind that everyone looks different and has different appearances, but that is what makes people beautiful. When you are telling a child that everyone looks different, you can tell her it will be impossible to look like Barbie because she has her own appearnace and like everyone else no two people can look alike.
If you have any additional questions feel free to ask. Is that enough? You didn't give much detail on what the prompt was like, but I think that is a good start. If you want to discuss some points it may make your paper more intellectually stimulating.
