The kelp forest ecosystem might have played a major role in the migration of ancient
people from northeastern Asia into the new world according to Erlandson, J. M., Graham, M. H.,
Bourque, B. J., Corbett, D., Estes, J. A., & Steneck, R. S. (2007). The people who migrated into
the Americas 15,000 years ago were mainly maritime people and followed the marine ecosystem
provided by the kelp forest at the time which led them to the new world and were the first
humans to colonize it. The type of food that these people used can be found in the kelp forest
today and they include seafood such as shellfish, seabirds, marine mammals, and seaweed which
could sustain them and managed to migrate into the new world. Up to date, the same kind of sea
food is still being relied on by all marine people across the world thus it could have been their
main reason and why they migrated into the new world in the first case according to this theory.
