In regards to Asalah a Muslim female working in the jail, she should be allowed to wear her khimar arriving and leaving the facility but it should be removed in the locker room or where it is that she keeps her belongings; this is an exception that could be made to assist with her religious beliefs. The Constitution makes it to where employers need to meet the needs of employees religious beliefs, however, being in a jail setting the khimar is unsafe not only for Asalah, her fellow peers and the inmates that she works with. While employers do have to make exceptions and arrangements for employees and their religion, the first priority is going to be to the safety and well being of the other employees and inmates in this situation.

The family coming in is something Asalah will have to address. This is a job she chose and while it does not allow her to wear her head scarf she will just have to explain to her family that it is not allowed for her safety as well as the others in the facility due to its ability to be used as a weapon or used for self harm.

The fact that she is Muslim may already have her on a radar of the inmates and maybe even some of the other employees so it very well could put her in danger; criminals in jail have a lot of time to plan and plot. Knowing her schedule and that she wears this khimar this would give them opportunity to plan and hurt her if that was something they wanted to do. I do not believe that offering her a job in the classification department is discrimination, I believe the facility is trying to accommodate the religious needs/beliefs that Asalah follows to allow her to keep this job and not disgrace her religion. If the cafeteria is away from the secured area of the jail where she has to leave the jail setting and go the administrative part of the building then there should be no reason as to why she should not be allowed to wear her khimar. However, if it is the secure area of the jail she should not be allowed to wear it due to safety reasons. There are policies that allow for religious beliefs to be upheld while at work as long as it does not pose a threat of danger to the rest of the work force. Employers allow time to pray and also give the locations of the moon when it is Ramadan so they may do what is required of this practice, they allow them to work in cloths that are required of their religion as long as it is safe. The policies in place are there to secure the rights of the people from being discriminated against; if there is a policy that does not allow something then it likely has a reason. I do believe these policies are effective because it lets the employers know what they can and cannot do it also allows employees or potential employees know what can be allowed in certain settings.
