Determine the kinetic energy of an electron that has a de Broglie wavelength equal to twice the diameter of the hydrogen atom. Assume that the hydrogen atom is a sphere of radius 5.3 × 10–11 m.

Lambda = h / p 

p = mass x velocity 

=> L = h /(mass x velocity) 

=> mass x velocity = h/L 

=> velocity = h/Lm 

Plug in the known values for h L and m to get the electron's velocity 

Plug the velocity into (1/2)mv^2 to get its kinetic energy.
