Christina rides her bike an average of 16 miles per hour with no wind. The time takes her to travel 48 miles with a tail wind, is the same amount of time it takes for her to go 16 miles into a head wind. What is the rate of the wind? (Hint: organize your work in a table.)

speed of bike =16

let the rate of wind = x

time = distance /speed

since time taken for tailwind and head wind is same,we have

(48 / (16 + x )) = (16 / (16 - x))

48/16 = 16 + x / 16 -x

3 ( 16 - x ) = 16 + x

4x = 32

x = 8


rate of the wind = 8 miles per hour......................................
